Business Assistance Grants To Southside Virginia Businesses for          e-Commerce
 
Overview: Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community
Revitalization Commission has agreed to help Southside Virginia
businesses grow revenues and jobs through e-commerce and has approved a
business assistance grant program for that purpose.  Businesses located
in the following areas are eligible for matching grant consideration:
Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, City of Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham,
Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, City of Danville, Dinwiddie, City of
Emporia, Franklin, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, City of
Martinsville, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince
Edward, and Sussex.
 
The Tobacco Commission is partnering with Virginia Electronic Commerce
Technology Center (VECTEC) — for information, seewww.vectec.org to
determine the readiness of interested businesses to undertake
e-commerce projects. VECTEC will meet with qualified businesses, advise
on the type project that will help them meet their goals, and approve
grant awards if applicable.
 
VECTEC Services Include:
search engine optimization assessment (with implementation if
necessary) web site design and development - repair of broken and
ineffectual sites portable, scalable shopping systems with a client
administrative interface custom database development assistance with
eVA (electronic Virginia) interface for businesses engaging in B2B and
B2G selling online
 
Total Awards Fund: $30,000 for projects (12/1/07 — 11/30/08)
 
Availability: Grants are made on a first-come, first serve basis.
 
Grant Amounts: Estimated awards for most Southside businesses can be
$500 - $2,000 each, not to exceed 50% of total project cost. Awards in
excess of $1,000 will be made on a specific case by case basis and
dependent on funds availability. The average grant will be
approximately $1,000.
 
Grant Process / How Program Works
Interested businesses should contact the VECTEC Regional Director for
Southside Virginia.  VECTEC's standard client interview process will
determine eligibility. Projects must be legal, ethical and commercially
viable.  Project potential i.e. job growth and retention and increased
revenues or cost savings will be assessed.
 
2. Each grant award is subject to prior review and final approval by
the Director of VECTEC.
 
3. VECTEC will make recommendations for funding matches from other
state business assistance grantors.
 
4. Approved Southside grant recipients must pay their portion of
project costs in full at time of signing of Statement of Work.
 
5. Tobacco Commission funds will pay for the remaining portion of
client project costs at project completion.
