An early Saturday morning fire destroyed a one story frame home located at 106 Bancroft Street, South Boston. According to a spokesman with the South Boston Fire Department, flames had fully engulfed the home by the
time they arrived on the scene at 1:40 a.m. The home, owned by Alex Stephens, was occupied. Cause of the blaze is still undetermined, but the value of the home was listed at $50,000. Seventeen South Boston firefighters responded to the blaze with three trucks. They were on the scene of the fire until 4:13 a.m. South Boston firefighters also responded to a call for assistance at a small fire at the Louisiana-Pacific facility on Route 501 just across the North Caroline state line. But the spokesman said the fire had been extinguished by the time they arrived at the scene.
