A Sunday morning blaze has left a local family without a home after
heat and smoke damage inflicted an estimated $50,000 in damages to
the
one story brick home they were living in at 2020 Spring Avenue,
South
Boston.
Patricia Kent and her three children, ages 14, 12 and 11 were
reportedly at church when South Boston firefighters were called to
their home at 11:19 a.m. yesterday.
A fire department spokesman said members of the Town's police
department are looking into the cause of the blaze, but there is no
suspicion of foul play. "We just want them to see what caused it; we
believe it started in a bedroom," the spokesman said.
Red Cross Executive Director Ginger Weaver said her agency is
helping
the family, and if anyone wants more information about how to help
they
may call her at (434)476-5148.
South Boston sent twenty firefighters and four trucks to the scene,
and
the Halifax Volunteer Fire Department assisted with two trucks and
ten
men. They were on the scene until 2:40 p.m. yesterday.
