A 19 year old Concord man was pronounced dead at the scene of an early
Monday morning, February 11, 2008, accident at the intersection of U.S.
501 and State Route 711. Stephen Layne Brumfield was the driver of a
1989 Chevrolet Camaro which was struck on the driver's side by the
southbound 2000 Ford van operated by 28 year old Tamika Moorefield
Fallen of Mountain Road, Halifax.
In the car with Brumfield was his four-month-old daughter, who was
airlifted to Duke University Medical Center for treatment of her
injuries. The infant was in a child restraint seat, but her father was
not wearing his seat belt.
Tamika Fallen and a 28-year-old passenger in her vehicle, Wendy Fallen,
were both transported to Halifax Regional Hospital for non-life
threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation by Virginia
State Trooper R. T. Ridgeway and State Police were expected to carry
out a reconstruction of the fatal accident later on Monday.
