A 44 year old Scottsburg man died at the
scene of an early Saturday morning single vehicle crash on State Route
360, about two-tenths mile west of State Route 729. Anthony David
“Tony” Franklin of Scottsburg was pronounced dead at the scene
around 1:14 a.m.According to a state police report,
Franklin was the operator of a 2000 Ford Explorer which veered off the
right side of the roadway, striking a tree. He reportedly was not wearing
a seatbelt. The vehicle was declared a total loss and investigation into
the accident is continuing by Virginia State Trooper D. D. Johnson.
In other reports from the State
Police, Trooper D.J. Cline is investigating a single vehicle accident in
which the car ran off State Route 676, about three tenths mile north of
its intersection with State Route 360, striking a tree. The accident is
believed to have occurred around 4 a.m.
Saturday morning. The driver of the car left the scene of the accident and
as of yesterday had not been found.
