DUI checkpoints held past weekend
Virginia State Police conducted DUI checkpoints over the past week-end
as part of the statewide Life Savers Care campaign. According to First
Sgt. Jeff Lane, 79 summons were handed out from Friday, December 21
through Sunday, December 23.
Lane said four DUI arrests were made, ten property damage incidents
recorded and two personal injuries during the checkpoint campaign.
Troopers logged a total of 2,445 miles and conducted a joint checkpoint
detail with officers from the Town of Halifax on Friday. During that
detail during which over 100 vehicles were checked, there were 14
summons given, one DUI and one drug arrest was made (these numbers were
included in the total of 79)
Lane pointed out that December is drunk driving and drug awareness
month throughout the state and checkpoints will continue through the
holiday season.
