Virginia Army National Guard ñ Mother and daughter enlist and attend
basic training together.
 
FORT LEE, Va.  - A mother and daughter from South Boston, Va., who
enlisted together in the Virginia Army National Guard, will be
departing here Thursday for Initial Entry Training to be conducted at
Fort Jackson, Miss.
Wanda Seate, 40, and her daughter, Ashley Elliott, 22, will be
departing the Military Entry Processing Station at 1:00 p.m. to attend
IET, commonly referred to as boot camp or basic training, to train to
be soldiers in the Virginia Army National Guard.
Prior to their departure, Seate and Elliott are participating in the
Recruit Sustainment Program and will be staying at Fort Pickett in
Blackstone, Va., until their departure.
Following their initial training, the mother and daughter team will
attend Advanced Individual Training to be generator mechanics.  They
will be assigned to the 3647th Maintenance Co. in Blackstone, Va.
Seate and Elliot will be available for interviews at Fort Pickett today
and Wednesday and at Fort Lee MEPS Thursday prior to their departure.
Staff Sgt. Jonathan Rhew, Seateís brother and Elliotís uncle, who
recruited the women, will also be available for interviews Thursday at
Fort Lee MEPS.
 
WHO:  Wanda Seate and Ashley Elliot, recruits in the Virginia National
Army National Guard.
 
WHAT:  Will be departing Fort Lee Military Entrance Processing Station
for basic training
 
WHEN:  Thursday, October 23, 2007 ñ Mother and daughter will depart
station at 1:00 p.m. and will be available for interview at 11:00 a.m.
 
WHERE: Fort Lee Military Entrance Processing Station, Fort Lee, Va. and
Fort Pickett, Blackstone, Va.
 
WHY:  This is a unique occurrence in the Virginia Army National Guard.
While we have many fathers, sons, mothers and daughters who serve
together, we rarely have mothers and daughters who join the Virginia
Army National Guard together.

Gate visitorsí parking lot no later than 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
All Media Representatives must carry an official form of photo ID in
order to be escorted onto Fort Lee.
