A 28 year old Halifax woman died at the scene of a Thursday, November
1, 2007 afternoon accident. Kelly Dease of 3115 Bethel Road was driving
a 1987 Ford Ecoline van on State Route 614 about nine-tenths mile north
of State Route 613 when she rounded a curve, crossing the center line.
Her van struck the side view mirror of the 2001 Ranger driven by
Veronica Denise Sydnor of South Boston who was southbound on 614.
Mrs. Dease overcorrected and lost control of the van and struck an
embankment. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the
vehicle and trapped underneath it. She was pronounced dead at the
scene, according to investigating Virginia State Trooper G. M. Gilliam.
Mrs. Dease worked as a manager at McDonald's Restaurant.
Gilliam noted that speed was not a factor in the accident which
occurred at 3:47 p.m. but that possibly driver inattention contributed
to the driver's loss of control.
