A former Halifax County youth has drowned at Eno River State Park,
Durham, NC. The body of 18 year old Ian David Creath of Chapel Hill was
pulled from the water shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, about
one hour after a search for the young man had been suspended Monday
night. Creath, who reportedly swam frequently at the quarry with friends and
his brother, was about 40 or 50 yards offshore and headed for a raft
when he went under.  He reportedly was swimming with a friend at the
time and called for help, but his friend could not reach him.
Creath had just finished his freshman year at UNC-Chapel Hill,
according to his mother. He is survived by his parents, David Creath and Robert and Shawn Bailey  and a brother, Lance Creath. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:30  to 7:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Walker's  Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC. A memorial  service will be held on Friday, July 13 at 4 pm. at Chapel Hill Bible
Church, 260 Erwin Road, Chapel Hill, NC. Burial will be private.
