South Boston Town Council is expected to give its stamp of approval to
a resolution approving the issuance of bonds by the Charlotte County
Industrial Development Authority to cover the costs of major capital
improvements, namely the construction of two floors, to Halifax
Regional Hospital. The Authority will issue bonds of up to $20 million
for the project. Chris Lumsden, chief executive officer for Halifax
Regional Health System, announced plans for the construction which will
consist of 40 new private rooms earlier this month.
Also this afternoon in the meeting in Council Chambers on Yancey
Street, beginning at 5:45 p.m., Councilís Finance Committee will
consider budget carryover requests, as well as reviewing a list of
delinquent taxes and the townís monthly financial statement.
Current Issues Committee members will receive an update on a complaint
about tap water from a North Main Street user and they will also
consider a staff recommendation to add language to the Town Code to aid
in the prevention of sewer blockages and overflows from fats, oils and
greases from commercial food establishments.
The committee will also consider several appointments, including a
position on the Townís IDA since Mr. Bob Reisch has resigned and his
term does not expire until June of 2010. The terms of two members of
the Lake Country Development Corporation also expire at the end of
September, but the two, George Leonard and Councilman Coleman Speece,
are eligible for reappointment.  There is also a vacancy on the board
of the Roanoke River Rails to Trails group.
