Sunday, call to worship were the first, second and fourth
verses of
"Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" at Hitesburg Baptist
Church. Jimmy
Wilson read the announcements and welcomed everyone. Hymn
was "The
Solid Rock". Prayer time ended with a prayer from the Deacon
of the
Week, Dean Elliott. Tammy Lloyd sang "In the Garden" as some
special
music. Hymn was "Victory in Jesus". As Jackie Arrington,
pianist,
played a few hymns, everyone fellowshipped with one another.
Children's
sermon, which was lead by Tammy, was concerning the 2008
Vacation Bible
School. A dog puppet, with Betty Hart as it's voice, was
used to tell
the children about the special visitors that have
volunteered to come
to VBS and inform the children about their jobs and the
services that
they provide. Tammy informed the children of the canned food
competition between the boys and girls that will be held at
VBS. The
ABC's (Admit, Believe, Confess) of forgiveness were also
discussed.
Those present from the Virgilina Lodge #48 stood and were
recognized.
Reverend Bob Watts brought the sermon entitled "What Kind of
Being is
God?". Scripture came from Psalms 14:1, Psalms 19:1-9,John
3:1-8 and
Job 42:2. Hymn was "Without Him". Visitors at HBC Sunday
included a
group from the Virgilina Lodge Troop #48 which included
Heiter Griffin,
Wallace and Lottie Nunn and Aubrey Nunn.
Recently, Abraham Tillotson attended the visitation of the
Dell
Arrington family and the visitation of the Hump Williamson
family. He
also attended Mr. Williamson's funeral. Last Tuesday,
Abraham visited
Herbie Wilkins and Joe Stewart. Last Wednesday evening, he
attended the
Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative meeting in Chase City.
Thursday, he
went to Danville. Abraham visited Oscar Tillotson several
times
throughout the week. Saturday evening, Abraham attended the
fish fry
and birthday celebration for Garnett Overbey and his
daughter, Wendy,
at Mr. Overbey's home. Sunday, he visited Oscar again.
Mrs. Ralston visited Mr. and Mrs. Decatur and Betty Overbey
several
times throughout the week. Saturday; they all, as well as
Donald and
Yvonne Overbey, dined out in South Boston for dinner at
Huddle House
Restaurant. Sunday; Decatur, Betty, Mrs. Ralston, Donald and
Yvonne
attended the Overbey Family Reunion which was held at Nelson
Baptist
Church. There they enjoyed seeing and visiting with many of
their
family members especially those from out of town.
Last Monday night, Ronnie and Deborah Pulliam and Dean
Elliott attended
Graham McAlexander's baseball game in Raleigh. Last
Wednesday, the
Pulliams were there for another ballgame. Graham and Ellen
McAlexander
returned home with them to spend a few days. Saturday,
Harper Ballance
was honored for her 2nd birthday with a pool party at the
home of her
grandparents, Ronnie and Deborah. Approximately 25 friends
and family
members enjoyed the celebration with her.
Last Monday, Wade Overby, Linda Puryear, Sambo Keeton, Vicki
Overby,
Carissa Overby and Haley Overby visited Mrs. Janie Keeton.
Last
Tuesday, Sambo visited her again. Last Wednesday, Lois
Martin, Harley
Rose Wray, Hunter Edwards, David Martin and Sambo were Mrs.
Keeton's
guests. Thursday; Lois, Sambo, Donald Wall and Linda visited
her.
Friday; David M., Annie Sue Overby, Linda, Donald, Big
Hurley Noblin,
Jacob Overbey and Courtney Tuck visited Janie. Also this
day; Janie,
Annie Sue, Courtney and Jacob visited Carrie Aycock.
Saturday; Scottie
Noblin, Gladys Newcomb, Sambo, Alma Elliott, Tammy Price,
Leslie Price,
Daniel Price and Teresa Wray visited Mrs. Keeton. Sunday,
Janie's
guests included Donald W., Linda P., Sambo, Johnny Nobliln,
Ashley
Noblin, Big Hurley, Crystal Atkins and Tyler Moore. Monday,
Linda
stopped by Janie's home for a while.
Dwight and Mitzie Waller visited Mr. and Mrs. Willard Overby
Friday.
Leslie Overby visited them throughout the week. Willard and
Ruth
attended the fish fry and birthday celebration for Garnett
Overbey and
his daughter, Wendy, at Garnett's home Saturday evening.
Drusilla
Newton, Jink and Carolyn Overbey, Jimmy and Bonnie Wilson
and a few
others were also at the celebration.
Esther Mae Murray, Mary Wilson, Sam Parham and Norma Elliott
went to
Victory Park Friday to hear some gospel music sung. Norma
visited Betty
Williamson Friday evening.

Bowen, Bailey Bowen and Avarie Bowen dined out at the
Homestead
Restaurant in Roxboro Friday evening.
Taylor Anderson visited Harold and Delores Hamlett and Rocki
Hamlett
Friday. She spent the night with the Hamlett's as well.
Delores, Rocki
and Taylor went to the movies Saturday evening.
A large group of men and boys gathered at Andy Loftis'
camping area on
Buggs Island Lake Friday night and Saturday. They were there
to enjoy
fellowship, fishing, and food.
