Betty Bane

The Amish Friendship Bread is made using a starter.  If you would like
a cup, call 476-6270 and I will tell you who has some.  The bread is
ready to be baked in just 10 days.

Interesting Dip - With the cold weather, try this hearty food.  It
takes about 5 minutes to assemble.
In an oven proof dish, 9x13 size, put
2 (8 oz.) packages softened cream cheese
2 cans Hormel chili with beans
1 can Hormel chili without beans
Heat in 350 oven.  When hot, add 2 cups sharp, grated cheddar cheese or
try the 5 Mexican mix cheese.  Heat.  Serve with chips.

This pie was a favorite of a friend.  No doubt it was very sweet.

Simple Pie
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter
3/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate bits
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Put the chocolate bits in a 9 inch unbaked pie shell.  Beat eggs, add
other ingredients.  Pour over chocolate bits.  Bake in 350 oven for 35
minutes.

This is Tuesday, April 1, 2008.  It rained all yesterday and up until
noon today.  Things look green and beautiful.
A friend gave me this recipe for a quick dessert.  I make it using
peaches.  I always have a can of peaches on hand.

Easy Cobbler
3 cups fruit
5 slices bread
1 stick butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 egg, beaten
1 cup sugar
Butter 9x13 dish.  Put fruit on the bottom.  Cut crust from bread and
cut slices into 5 fingers.  Lay on top of fruit.  Fit to make a crust.
Melt butter.  Add egg, flour and sugar.  Mix and spread on bread.  Bake
in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.

Virgilina - Sunday evening, 6 o'clock, my friend Rosie and I found
ourselves lost on the way to a gathering.  We stopped at the Virgilina
Grocery Store.  A nice gentleman knew exactly where we needed to go.
The lady in charge let me use her phone and this great guy said, "Mrs.
Bane you taught me how to make an omelet in the 6th grade."  What a
wonderful group of folks.  I'm going back to thank them personally.  By
the way, we arrived at our destination and all ended well.  And the red
buds are in full bloom as you drive down Road 96.

This is my favorite quick pie.

Chocolate Chess Pie
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 small can evaporated milk
Mix with spoon.  Bake in pie shell in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
Make two and share with a friend.

What's Cooking With Betty Bane?

What a great weekend! All the family was together. Food, Food, Food! We
had turkey, ham, and baked pork loin. The vegetables were the best.
There was string beans, corn, cabbage, butter beans, apples, and hot
rolls.
We celebrated granddaughter dolly's birthday which is April 1 and
Kate's which is April 22. But to make everybody happy we celebrated
Bane's February 13 and Kent's February 20. This made everybody happy
except Meg who will have to wait until July.
When the Richmond folks arrived Saturday at 3 p.m. they all had
vegetables and wondered why mine tasted better than theirs. I assured
them that it was only being home and having good memories.

Some one requested this recipe.

Blueberry Congealed Salad
1 can blueberry pie filling
2 packages (3 ounce each) grape jello
1 large can of crushed pineapple
Mix above ingredients and let congeal.

Topping:
1 package of 8 ounce cream cheese
1 carton of 8 ounce sour cream
1/2 cup of powdered sugar
1/2 chopped nuts
1 teaspoon of vanilla

This is a simple casserole to make for the family to take to someone or
for a church supper.
