In other accident reports, South Boston Police investigated a Thursday afternoon mishap at the intersection of Edmunds Street and Watkins Avenue which resulted in injuries to two people and estimated property damages of $9,000.
In her report, investigating South Boston Police Officer J. Berry noted that a 2001 Ford SUV, driven by 29 year old Michelle Wade of Roxboro, N.C. was traveling southbound on Watkins Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign where the road intersects with Edmunds Street. Wade's vehicle subsequently was struck by a 2006 International tractor trailer, driven by 44 year old Tassey Tilly of Graham, NC that was traveling westbound on Edmunds.
The impact knocked the Ford SUV into a 2006 Ford, driven by 61 year old Barbara Downey of Buffalo Junction, which was stopped in the northbound lane of Watkins at the stop sign. The SUV continued traveling until it hit a street sign.
A child, approximately two years old, who was not properly restrained in the vehicle, was thrown from the SUV during the accident. The child was transported by rescue squad personnel for non-life threatening injuries to Halifax Regional Hospital. The mother of the child, 22 year old Kathy Wade of Roxboro, N.C., was also transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Neither the driver of the tractor trailer or the other Ford were injured, and damages to the SUV were estimated at $6,000 while those to the tractor trailer were set at $1,000 and the other Ford at $2,000.
Berry charged Michelle Wade, the SUV driver, with reckless driving and Kathy Wade was arrested for child endangerment and taken before a magistrate who released her on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
