Blanchie Newton Brenner
Mrs. Blanchie Newton Brenner of 8233 Bill Tuck Highway, Virgilina died Monday, December 22, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born August 4, 1922 in Mecklenburg County, she was a former employee of Burlington Industries and was a member of Hitesburg Baptist Church.
Mrs. Brenner is survived by a daughter, Mary B. (Brenner) Dean of Virgilina and a sister, Elizabeth N. Overbey, also of Virgilina, three grandchildren, Alice Griffin, Sara Reese and Jim Brenner, seven great grandchildren: Tina Hodnett, Will, Kent and Sara Beth Reese, Jimmy Brenner, James S. Griffin, Jr. and Phillip Griffin and one great great grandchild, James Rowland.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Albert Brenner, Sr. and her husband, Albert Joseph Brenner, Jr., her parents, James Arthur Newton and Sally Augusta Newton, a brother, Drewery Newton, three sisters, Emma Alice Blanks, Anne Laura Newton and Mary Rachel Brenner, and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Brenner and Mary Ann Satterfield.
A funeral service for Mrs. Brenner was conducted on Wednesday, December 24 at 1 p.m. at Hitesburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating. Carrie Marable Williams
Mrs. Carrie Marable Williams of 1216 Watkins Avenue, South Boston died Monday, December 22, 2008 at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 95. Born March 24, 1913 in Halifax County to the late Mrs. Maria Marable, she was married to the late Rev. E. G. Williams and was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jean Valentine and her husband, John of the home and her devoted cousins and friends: Mr. James Barksdale, Mrs. Shareon Smith, the Paniel Family, Ms. Faith Hughes and Audrey and Preston Smith and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Mr. James Arthur Williams.
A funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be conducted on Monday, December 29 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home, 2000 North Main Street with the Rev. Roderick McClanahan officiating. Public viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the home, 1216 Watkins Avenue, South Boston, VA.
Johnnie Younger
Mr. Johnnie Younger, 74, of 5084 Bold Springs Road, South Boston died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at McGuire Veterans Administration Center. He was born November 16, 1934 in Halifax County, a son of the late Mr. Extra Younger and Mrs. Ollie Crawley Younger. He was a member of Dan River Bethel Baptist Church and was a retired Air Force Veteran.
He is survived by three sons, Mr. Johnnie Younger, Jr. of Temple, TX, Mr. Kevin Younger and Mr. Spyros Younger, both of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. Odella Williams of Roanoke, Mrs. Lucy Beard and Mrs. Gracie Terry, both of South Boston; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Dan River Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. Public viewing will be Friday from 12 noon-6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will receive friends at his home.
Mary Wilborne Collins
Mrs. Mary Wilborne Collins, 91, of 1058 Neals Corner Road, Clover died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at her home. She was born September 13, 1917, a daughter of the late Mr. Ned Wilborne and Mrs. Alvergia Garrett Wilborne. She was married to the late Mr. William Collins and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ms. Annie M. Sydnor of the home; two sons, Mr. Harry Wilborne of North Bradford, CT and Mr. Thomas "Sid" Sydnor of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Marline Cherry of New York, NY; two brothers, Mr. Joseph Wilborne of Clover and Mr. Jacob Wilborne of Saxe; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Lou Wilborne and Mrs. Gwen Sydnor, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. William Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday from Noon-6:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will receive friend at her home.
