Jeanne Bodie Sizemore

Mrs. Jeanne Bodie Sizemore, 78, of 1900 Hodges Street, South Boston, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Staunton on September 25, 1930, a daughter of the late William Jesse Bodie and Anne Isabel Alvis Bodie and was married to the late Jordan Sizemore. She was a member of First Baptist Church, South Boston, where she was active with the children and music programs, was a member and former director of the children's and adult choirs, was retired from public schools as an elementary music teacher at Washington Coleman and C.H. Friend.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally S. Muller and husband John of Greensboro, NC; two sons, R. Macon Sizemore and wife Caren of Richmond, Daniel Jordan Sizemore and wife Carolyn of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Sylvia Howell and husband Ken of Lexington, SC and Sallie Bodie of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Bill Bodie and wife Lois of Williamsburg and Charles Bodie and wife Adrienne of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Melissa Rothrock and husband Michael, Kim Muller, Meredith Sizemore, Anne Sizemore, Rachel Sizemore, Nina Sizemore, Cameron Sizemore and one daughter-in-law, Sue McMahon Sizemore. She was preceded in death by one son, William Thomas Sizemore.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church, South Boston on December 13 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Susan Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Elizabeth Brown Moorman

Mrs. Elizabeth Brown Moorman, 94, of 5002 Mt. Laurel Road, Clover died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on May 1, 1914, a daughter of the late Mr. Frank Brown and Mrs. Annie Rickman Brown. She was married to the late Mr. Roy Moorman and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Martha Moorman Conner of Clover; four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Moorman and Mrs. Mamie Clark, both of Clover, Mrs. Sarah Baldwin and Mrs. Theader Mae Brown, both of Lennig; three grandsons, Warrant Officer Nelson Conner and wife Doris, Sgt. Vincent Conner and Kim Conner; two great-grandchildren, Austin Conner and Autumn Conner; two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.


Mary Ann Mason Cole

Mrs. Mary Ann Mason Cole, 54, of South Boston died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. Born in Mecklenburg County on January 10, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ann Estell Brooks and the late William R. Mason Sr. She was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System, a graduate of Bluestone Senior High and attended Danville Community College. She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, Townsville, NC, a former employee of Burlington Industries and then DRS, Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Cole, III of the South Boston; one daughter, Kenya Hardy of Clarksville; one son, Kelly Mason of Herndon; two step-sons, Jar'ell and Der'ell Cole of South Boston; three brothers, William R. Mason Jr. (Shirley) of Boydton, Wilson Mason (Mary) and Edward Mason (LaSheryl) of Clarksville; a mother-in-law, six brothers-in-law, one ex-sister-in-law (Joyce), two aunts, one uncle, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Hardy and two brothers, Southall and James Thomas Mason.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Antioch United Church of Christ with burial to follow in the cemetery.

Delbert Ross Clark

Mr. Delbert Ross Clark, 81, of 3004 Huell Matthews Highway, South Boston died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on December 22, 1926, son of the late James Russell Clark and Edith Carpenter Clark and was married to Mabel Thomas Clark. He was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, retired from Burlington Industries, Inc. and a World War II Army Veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Claude R. Clark of LaCrosse; daughter, Treva Hunt and husband Bryant of Halifax; one granddaughter, Dana N. Hunt; one brother, Leroy Clark of South Boston; three sisters, Margaret Tingen and Shirley Stevens, both of South Boston and Evelyn Long of Chesapeake. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Wayne Hunt, a brother, Raymond Clark and a sister, Gladys Dyer.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Woodfin and Rev. Jeaux Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Marjorie Byrd Dixon

Mrs. Marjorie Byrd Dixon, 65, of 1044 Bessie Marion Trail, Halifax died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on June 9, 1943, daughter of the late Mr. Charlie William Byrd, Jr. and Mrs. Hallie Lawson Byrd. She was married to Mr. John Dixon and was a member of New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pamela B. Breedlove of Nathalie and Ms. Shirley A. Dixon of Halifax; two sons, Mr. Lonnie J. Dixon and Mr. Dexter Dixon, both of South Boston; one step-son, Mr. Robert Fallen of South Boston; five sisters, Mrs. Irene Oliver of Danville, Mrs. Hallie Jones of Crystal Hill, Ms. Georgia Byrd of Hartford, CT, Mrs. Anna Cook of Washington, DC and Mrs. Carolyn Hart of Halifax; one brother, Mr. Michael Byrd of Hartford, CT; 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Mr. Robert Breedlove, Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Kim Dixon and Mrs. Shavia Dixon; seven brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. at New Mt. Olive Apostolic Church with District Elder Leonia Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing today from 12:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will meet at the home.

Malcolm Wayne Thompson

Mr. Malcolm Wayne "Mac" Thompson, 50, of Broadway, Va. died December 8, 2008 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was born July 29, 1958 in Halifax County and was a son of Eunice Hamlet Thompson Hux of South Boston and the late John Robert Thompson. He was a general foreman for C.W. Wright Construction, an avid farmer and member of Ellis Creek Church.
He is survived by his wife Brenda D. Thompson. Also surviving in addition to his wife and mother are his stepfather, Thomas A. Hux of South Boston; daughter, Tracey Thompson and fiancé, Gary Frank II of Fulks Run; son, Brian Thompson and wife Shelane of Broadway; stepson, Jimmy Custer and wife Kim of Fulks Run; sister, Mitzi Grove and husband Curtis of South Boston; brother, Mike Thompson and wife Judy of South Boston; grandchildren, Tyler and Branson Custer, and Logan Thompson.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 12 at noon at Mt. Grove Cemetery, Fulks Run with Pastor Donald Guthrie and Jerry Shiflet officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Grandle Funeral Home, Broadway. Friends may visit the family at 315 Wickham Street, South Boston. Memorials may be directed to Mt. Ellen Lucille Conner Moore

Mrs. Ellen Lucille Conner Moore, 85, and formerly of South Boston died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Roman Eagle Memorial Home. Born in Halifax County on September 28, 1923, she was a retiree of the J. P. Stevens Co. and was a charter member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church. After her retirement from J.P. Stevens, she later owned and operated Moore's Antiques until 1997. She lived at the home of her daughter and son-in-law for two years prior to her passing.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her daughter, Judy C. Moss and husband, Bill of Ringgold, a brother, Emery W. Conner and wife, Katherine of South Boston, a granddaughter, Darlene L. Orrell and husband, Jerry and a grandson, John Rodney Linens and wife, Paula, all of Ringgold. Also surviving are a great grandson, Jonathan Paul Linens, and three great granddaughters, Jessica Linens and fiancé, Jason Weaver, Amanda Orrell and fiancé, Addison Solomon and Tatum Orrell. She was loved by many of her nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers, her husband, Charlie James Moore and her parents, Holt Easley Conner and Daisy Bell Powell Conner.
A funeral service for Mrs. Moore will be conducted on Friday, December 12 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Eure officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of her daughter, 531 Mountain Hill Road, Ringgold. Eugene Anderson Jr.

Mr. Eugene Anderson Jr. of 1141 Carlbrook Road, Vernon Hill died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at his home. Born in Halifax County on November 28, 1947, he was 61 at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Junious Eugene (Dean) Anderson, Sr. and Eugenia Landrum Anderson and was married to Roberta Fuik Anderson, who survives. He was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter, Cindy A. Hubbard and husband, Gray of Renan, a son, Andy Anderson of Vernon Hill and three grandchildren, Paige Anderson of Vernon Hill, Trae Hubbard and Amanda Hubbard, both of Renan, two sisters, Geraldine Anderson Newton of Danville, and Bettie Srougi of Lynchburg and two special companions, Bridget and Jake.
A memorial service for Mr. Anderson will be held Saturday, December 13 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Spence officiating. Ernestine Bailey Hall

Ms. Ernestine Bailey Hall of South Boston died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Irdell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, NC at the age of 51. She was born in Halifax County on March 31, 1957 to Ms. Helen Tucker Banks and Mr. Henry L. Bailey.
Ms. Hall is survived by one daughter, Mrs.. Zerlene Lassiter of Statesville, N.C. two sons, Mr.. Ernest Bailey of South Boston and Mr. Otis Lee Hall, Jr. of Newark, NJ, her mother of South Boston and her father of Washington, DC, four brothers, Mr. Vincent Bailey of Washington, DC, Mr. Lynn Bailey of Silver Spring, MD, Mr. Lorenzo Bailey and Mr. Alvin Bailey, both of South Boston, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, Bishop Nathaniel Lassiter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Ms. Hall will be held Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Apostle Carl Lykes officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday.


John "Sammy" Cliborne

Mr. John Samuel "Sammy" Cliborne, 82, of Cocoa Beach, Fla. died Monday, December 8, 2008 at his home. He was born in Harmony on July 26, 1926, son of the late Johnny W. Cliborne and Willie Lowery Cliborne was married to Rachel Moore Cliborne and was a retired mechanic.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann C. Yancey and husband Herbert of Chesterfield; a son, Jimmy Cliborne and wife Vicky of Halifax; grandson, Tim Yancey and a granddaughter, Chawn Laree Cliborne. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie C. Walker.
Memorial services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Terry Blevins officiating. Ellen Bertha Rogers


Mrs. Ellen Bertha Rogers, 91, of Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Nathalie, died Friday, December 5, 2008 at Morningside Nursing Home. She was born September 7, 1917 in Nathalie, daughter of the late Woodrow and Ellen Clark and was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church.
She is survived by her grandsons, Joseph Scruggs and wife Patricia and Jason Terry; her son-in-law, James Terry; four great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church with Rev. Lorenzo Ruff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Vivian Wade Jennings

Ms. Vivian Wade Jennings of 5065 Newbill School Road, Clover, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 54. Born in Halifax County on February 12, 1954 to Ms. Mary Elizabeth Wade and the late Mr. Robert Petty, she was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church.
Ms. Jennings is survived by four sons, Mr. Ernest Carr of South Boston, Mr. Tyrone Jennings of Clover, Mr. Anthony Jennings of Halifax and Mr. Tyrell Jennings of Richmond, her mother of Halifax and two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Petty of Halifax and Mrs. Annie Pearson of Richmond, two brothers, Mr. Robert Petty and Mr. Steven Petty, both of Lynchburg, nine grandchildren, a daughter-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Richard Petty and a sister, Ms. Patricia Petty.
A funeral service for Ms. Jennings will be conducted on Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church in Nathalie with Rev. Robert Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be on Saturday fro 10 am. to 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and the family will receive friends at the home of Tyrone Jennings, 1132 Rodgers Chapel Road, Clover.
