Myrtle Wade Crews

Mrs. Myrtle Wade Crews of 14189 L. P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Nathalie died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax County on October 26, 1921, she was 87 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Robert Wade and Bessie Guill Wade and was married to the late Clarence Edward "Bill' Crews. She was a loving and devoted mother, homemaker and lifelong member of Childrey Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty C. Clardy and husband Charles of Nathalie, Jean C. Hendricks of Brookneal and Linda H. Poindexter and husband Wendell of Union Hall, five grandchildren, Leon Stanley and wife Michelle, Christopher Powell and wife April and Bruce Hamlett and wife Ginger, all of Nathalie, Scott Hamlett of South Boston and Mark Hendricks of Brookneal and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Hendricks and one granddaughter, Annette Stanley Watts.
A funeral service for Mrs. Crews will be conducted on Monday, November 17 at 2 p.m. at Childrey Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Stanfield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. For memorials please consider the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department.

Maggie Jones Adams

Mrs. Maggie Jones Adams of 4054 L. P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax died Friday, November 14, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on April 13, 1932 and was 76 years old at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Archer Jones and Ola Trammell Jones and was married to James Monroe Adams who survives.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband of the home, a son, Jimmy Lee Lloyd and wife Rosa of Nathalie, four grandchildren, Pandi Lloyd and April Lloyd of Halifax, Mealie Sulter of Alton and James Lloyd of Nathalie, two great grandchildren, Lee Puryear and Kaitlyn Puryear of Halifax, two brothers, Henry Jones of Springfield, Ohio and James Jones of Petersburg, three sisters, Mildred Barksdale of South Boston and Mary Griffin and Maxine Rice, both of Wake Forest, N.C. and a special nephew, Mark Prowell and a number of other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hurly, Flenoury and Bobby Jones and three sisters, Mealie McCormick, Margaret Milton and Mabel Prowell.
A funeral service for Mrs. Adams will be conducted on Monday, November 17 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. N. Juanita "Dee" Schart

N. Juanita "Dee" Schart, 89, of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at The Woodview. She was born in Fairfield County, Ohio on November 16, 1918.
She is survived by one niece, Shirley Tribley and husband Don of South Boston; two nephews, David Phillips and wife Peggy of Lexington, KY and Woodie Phillips and wife Nancy of Pleasant Township, OH.

David Varnedoe Fender

Mr. David Varnedoe Fender, Jr., 57, of 8068 Philpott Road, South Boston died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at his home. He was born in Valdosta, Ga. on September 30, 1951, a son of Claudia Peck Fender and the late David V. Fender, Sr. He was married to Melba Amerson Fender, was a member of First Cross Roads Baptist Church and president of the Turbeville Ruritan Club.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by one son, Peter Henry Fender and wife Tracey of Lakeland, FL; one grandson, Patrick O. Fender; one step-daughter, Audrey Shaw of Atlanta, Ga; two brothers, Henry Fender and Peter Fender, both of Valdosta, Ga; and two sisters, Sally Eye and Sandra, both of Valdosta, Ga.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 15 at First Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Ward officiating.

Calvin M. Moser

Mr. Calvin Moorefield Moser, age 65, died on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Danville Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born on January 30, 1943, in Danville, he was the son of the late Leonard Moorefield Moser and the late Pauline Meadows Moser. He was a lifelong resident of Java, but most recently had been a resident of Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville. He was a retired farmer and avid hunter before becoming disabled with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was a graduate of Spring Garden High School and a member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Java.
He is survived by two brothers, Garry Moser and wife, Janet; Ricky Moser and wife, Vickie, both of Java; one sister, Kathy Moser Younger and husband, Tommy, of Danville; four nephews, Chris Moser and Jason Moser of Chatham; Brian Moser and Jeremy Moser, of Java; and one niece, Kaylee Younger of Danville. He is also survived by three great-nieces and one great-nephew.
A funeral service will be conducted at Church of God of Prophecy in Java on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Edward Pope officiating. Burial will be at Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery, in Java. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Monday, November 17, 2008 from 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM and at other times will be at the residence of Garry Moser, 3960 Church Road, Java, VA.

John Thomas Collie Sr.,

Mr. John Thomas Collie, Sr., 86, of 1028 Whitt Loop Road, Alton died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his home. He was born in Charlotte County on September 18, 1922, a son of the late Elijah Thomas Collie and Inez Jones Collie and was married to Margaret Tharpe Collie. He was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tommy Collie and Wayne Collie, both of Roxboro, NC; two daughters, Bonnie Metcalf of Mukilteo, Wash. and Tyra Watts of Palm Bay, Fla.; two brothers, Harold Collie of South Boston and Clarence Collie of Randolph; four sisters, Annie Bell Nichols of Randolph, Estelle Royster of Drakes Branch, Lucille Crowder and Cecile Collier, both of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brad Watts and a brother, Fletcher Collie.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 16 at Bethel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Evans and Rev. Joel Bradsher officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Charlie Dabney Hudson III

Mr. Charlie Dabney Hudson, III, 75, of 7026 L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on October 18, 1933, a son of the late Charlie Dabney Hudson, Jr. and Mary Riddle Hudson and was married to Mabel Saunders Hudson. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, Halifax Masonic Lodge #96 and Scottish Rites and was a Shriner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Osborne and husband Mike of Prince George and Mary Jane Collie and husband Dwayne of Halifax; one son, Charlie Dabney "Chuck" Hudson, IV and wife Penny of Danville; five grandchildren, Shay Osborne and wife Sarah, Leanna Collie, Ethan Collie, Will Hudson, Connor Hudson and two great-grandchildren, Micah and Naomi Osborne. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Hudson Friend.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Simmons and Rev. Mike Osborne officiating.
