OBITUARIES
Paul E. Weikle
Paul E. Weikle, 53, of Gulfport, Miss., passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008. He worked for the Rosskopf family at the Rosskopf Electric Supply Company for the past 28 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vanita M. Weikle, his grandparents, Freddie and Delsie Forlines of the Hitesburg community, Virgilina and Laymen and Mary Weikle of Covington.
Survivors include his daughters, Julia S. Weikle of Gulfport and Stacy M. Rezents and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Christian and Hannah Longnecker, Wyoming. He is also survived by his parents, Robert and Julia F. "Judy" Weikle of Newport News; brother, Jerry L. Weikle and wife Karen and children Zachary, Hunter and Madison of Concord, N.C. and by the members of the Rosskopf family and many friends.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Monday, November 3, at 4 p.m. at Jones Park, Hwy. 90, Gulfport, Miss.
Richard Louis Owen
Mr. Richard Louis Owen of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Halifax County, died November 9, 2008. He was born in Halifax County to the late Mr. Amos Owen and Mrs. Katie Clay Owen.
He is survived by one daughter, Ms. Veronica Owen and one grandson, both of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Mr. Harold Owen of South Boston; one sister, Mrs. Edith B. Woodman of Richmond, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Browns Funeral Home, Baltimore, Md.
Addie May Sherman Walker
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. - Addie May Sherman Walker, 68, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in Springfield. She was born July 2, 1940 in Westfield, Massachusetts and was a longtime North Haverhill resident before moving to Virginia. She loved to sing, knit and spend time with family and friends.
She is survived by her four children, John Walker IV of Norfolk, Carol Boden of South Boston, Jo White of Chester, Vt. and Jayson Walker of Danville; a sister, Lucy Chapman of Springfield, Mass.; a brother, Harold Mosher of Conn.; seven grandchildren and a niece. She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Edward.
Private graveside services were held in Massachusetts.
Lois Jennings Henderson
Ms. Lois Jennings Henderson, 79, of 300 Hamilton Blvd. Apt. 302, South Boston, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born February 8, 1929 in Halifax County, daughter of the late Lydia Church Jennings and B.J. Jennings.
She is survived by three sons, George L. Henderson and wife Mary Beth of New York, Robert Henderson of New York and Jay Webb and wife Patti of Michigan; one sister, Margaret Dyer of South Boston; one brother, Jimmy Jennings of Halifax; and grandchildren Kailee and Kristian Henderson, Ashley Webb and Jay Webb, Jr. She was preceded in death by a brother, B.J. Jennings.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m. at South Boston Church of Christ. Memorials may be directed to South Boston Church of Christ, 3105 Halifax Road, South Boston, VA 24592.
Adelaide Hardy Mason
Adelaide Hardy Mason, 84, of Roanoke, formerly of Warrenton and South Boston, died Sunday, November 9, 2008. She was a retired librarian with Fauquier County Schools, a former member of Saint James Episcopal Church and current member of Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Mason and wife Dorothy of Newark, Ohio and L. Hardy Mason and wife Elizabeth Kyle of Shenandoah Junction, W. Va.; a daughter, Adelaide Bass "Dee" Mason of Roanoke; their father, T. Freeland Mason of Richmond and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church with Rev. Becky Crites officiating. Interment will take place November 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Boston. Memorials may be directed to Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 2339 Grandin Road, S.W., Roanoke, VA 24022.
Lucille East Taylor
Mrs. Lucille East Taylor of High Point, N.C., formerly of Halifax County, VA, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Sun Bridge Nursing Home in High Point. She was born in Halifax County on April 30, 1948 and was 61 years old. She was the daughter of the late Norman Owen East and Doris King East and was married to the late Jimmy Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was a member of a Baptist church in High Point.
She is survived by one daughter, Tonya Jecktile of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Gene Raymond Philyaw of High Point; two sisters, Helen Moore of Cary, N.C. and Shirley E. Young of Granite Falls, N.C.; four brothers, Ray East of Willow Spring, N.C., Bill East of Martinsville, Troy East of Albemarle, N.C. and Tommy East of Sanford, N.C.; and one grandchild, Laurin Price of Richmond. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian Philyaw.
A graveside service for Mrs. Taylor will be held Friday, November 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the King Family Cemetery in Halifax County with the Rev. Bob Watts officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider Hospice in High Point.
