William Edward Seamon

Mr. William Edward Seamon of 1011 Watkins Avenue, South Boston died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Durham Regional Hospital.
Born in Halifax County on May 22, 1933, he was 75 at the time of his death. He was a retired electrician with Georgia-Pacific Corporation and was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran.
Mr. Seamon is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Cliborne Seamon of the home, two daughters, Wanda Seamon Nagle and Sandra Welcher and fianceÕ Doug Wojton, all of South Boston and two sons, Mitch Seamon and wife Darlene of Lennig and Steve Seamon and wife, Wanda of Clays Mill, four granddaughters, Brandie Lewis and husband, Shane, Monica and Samantha Seamon and Randi Welcher, three step grandsons, Casey Campbell and fiance BriannaÕ Velez and Chad and Chase Campbell and three step great grandchildren, Conner Campbell, Justin Lewis and Hailey Lewis. Two sisters, Eloise Franklin and Elizabeth Wilborn, both of South Boston, also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Seamon and Sally Wilborn Seamon and a brother, Jack Seamon.
A funeral service for Mr. Seamon will be conducted at Second Baptist Church on Monday, November 3 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery. Sadie Logan Myrick
Mrs. Sadie Logan Myrick, formerly of Halifax County, died in Detroit, Mich. at the age of 80. Born in Halifax County on May 8, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Mr. Cleveland Logan and Mrs. Fannie Terry Logan. Early in life she joined the Dan River Bethel Baptist Church and later moved to Detroit, where she joined the Christ Cathedral Baptist Church. She was married to Mr. Charlie Myrick who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Myrick is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Valencia Warner of Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Southfield, Mich., a godson, Mr. Alan Berry of Baltimore, Md., two sisters, Mrs. Eva Robertson of South Boston and Mrs. Adelle Tyree of Paterson, N.J., two sons-in-law, Mr. Keith Warner and Mr. Eugene Smith, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Logan of Chesterfield and Mrs. Jannie Delaney of Southfield, MI, two brothers-in-law, Mr. Russell Tyree of Paterson, N.J. and Mr. Eddie Myrick of Detroit Mich., five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Myrick will be conducted on Monday, November 3 at the Christ Cathedral Baptist Church in Detroit. Burial will follow in Detroit.

Ella Barksdale Barbour
Mrs. Ella Barksdale Barbour, 83, of Nathalie died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Kitt Barksdale and Mrs. Effie Boyd Barksdale and was married to the late Mt. Otis Barbour, Sr. She was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Betty Tune (James III) and Ms. Sarah Ann Barbour of Nathalie; four sons, Mr. Otis Barbour, Jr. and Mr. Malcolm "Randy" Barbour (Mattie) of Nathalie, Mr. Levi (Nancy) Barbour of Long Island, Mr. Kitt Lee (Drusilla) Barbour of Lanham, Md.; six sisters, Ms. Linda Barksdale of Lanham, Md., Mrs. Barbara Black (Kenneth) of Nathalie, Ms. Nancy Barksdale of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Martha Farmer (Ray) of New Castle, DE, Mrs. Erna Jennings of Capital Heights, Md. and Mrs. Minnie (Edward) Slayton of Belmont, N.C.; one aunt, Mrs. Helen Boyd; one uncle, Mr. Othell Boyd, grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 2 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with interment in the Barbour Family Cemetery.

Berkley Stafford Wright
Mr. Berkley Stafford Wright, 80, of 4051 L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on October 11, 1928, a son of the late Addie Cobb Wright and Lula Barksdale Wright and was married to Virginia Wade Wright. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Velvetta Wright Littles of Nathalie, Valerie Wright Waller and husband Mike of Nathalie, Vanessa Wright Cole and husband Mark of South Boston, Wendy Wright Beard of Halifax; two sons, Vincen Wright and wife Deborah of Nathalie, Berkley S. (Skeeter) Wright, Jr. of Vernon Hill; two sisters, Elva W. Holland of Halifax and Faye W. Short of Gretna; two brothers, Kermit Wright of Halifax and Norman Wright of Manassas; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Saturday, November 1 at First Baptist Church of Millstone with Military Rites and Rev. Dr. Michael Parnell officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Alfred L. Garland
Mr. Alfred L. Garland of 5141 Philpott Road, South Boston died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his home at the age of 82. Born December 22, 1925 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Mr. John Henry Garland and Mrs. Etta Childs Garland. He was married to the late Sarah Carrington and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a retired employee of Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Garland is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Alfred Wayne Garland and Mrs. Pamela F. Garland of South Boston, two grandchildren, Mr. Terez Garland of Newport News and Miss Taryn Garland of Winston-Salem, N.C., two sisters, Mrs. Edith Hamlett of Semora, N.C. and Mrs. Dorothy Cunningham of Somerset, N.J. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Garland was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Ann Garland.
A funeral service for Mr. Garland will be conducted on Thursday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Wayne Garland, 5141 Philpott Road, South Boston.

Lottie Cole Owen
Mrs. Lottie Cole Owen of Halifax died Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Halifax Regional Hospital. Born on March 6, 1922 in Farmville, she was 86 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Cole and was married to Louis Jennings Owen. She was member of the Halifax United Methodist Church and retired from the National Institute of Health with the United States Government.
Mrs. Owen is survived by her husband of the home, two sisters and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
A funeral service for Mrs. Owen will be conducted on Wednesday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at the Halifax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Burial will be Thursday, November 6 at the Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the home, 412 Lakeside Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halifax County Humane Society, P.O. Box 969, South Boston, Va. 24592 or the Halifax United Methodist Church.
