Mary Alice Ballou Kemper

Mrs. Mary Alice Ballou Kemper of 4248 Mountain Road, Halifax died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 102. Born in Halifax County on October 20, 1906 to the late Mr. Edward Ballou and Mrs. Mary M. Ballou, she was married to the late Mr. Carroll Kemper and was a member of Union Grove C.M.E. church.
Mrs. Kemper is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Bessie Sampson of Temple Hills, Md. and Mrs. Bernice Brown of Halifax, a nephew, Mr. Emerson Ballou, Jr. of Silver Springs, Md., great nieces, Mrs. Audrey Sampson, Mrs. Mary B. Smith and Mrs. Megan Douglas, all of Maryland and two great nephews, Mr. Emerson Ballou, Ill. and Mr. Matthew Ballou, both of Maryland, a devoted and special friend, Mrs. Mary Pounds, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Kemper will be conducted on Monday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at Union Grove C.M.E. church with Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Bernice Brown, 2165 Highview Road, Halifax.

Nancy Lee D. Osborne

Mrs. Nancy Lee Dunkley Osborne of 2085 Woods Creek Lane, Scottsburg died Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax County on October 15, 1936, she was 72 at the time of her death. She was a former school secretary in Nottoway County and a substitute teacher in the Halifax County School system and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Osborne is survived by her husband, Maynard Hagood Osborne of the home, two daughters, Debbie Jones and husband Mark of Virginia Beach and Deanna Hammer and husband, Doug of Crewe, two granddaughters, Beth Hammer of Crewe and Kellee Jones and a grandson, Turner Jones, both of Virginia Beach and a brother, J. D. Dunkley of San Antonio, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Daniel Dunkley and Grace Estes Dunkley.
A memorial service for Mrs. Osborne was conducted on Saturday, October 25 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeaux Simmons officiating. In lieu of food and flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at www.komen.org or a charity of one's choice.

Patricia Gayle Williamson

Patricia Gayle Williamson, formerly of Halifax County and Lynchburg, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 in Community Memorial Health Center in South Hill. Born October 12, 1948 in Halifax County she was 60 at the time of her death.
She is survived by two brothers, Arthur L. Williamson and wife, Irene and Odell Williamson, all of Halifax. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Wilkins Williamson and Charlie Russell Williamson.
Funeral services are private and the family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.

Linwood Paniel

Mr. Linwood Paniel, 57, of 2196 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on August 18, 1951, a son of Mrs. Ruth Faulkner Paniel and the late Mr. Nickodemus Paniel.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Pauline Roberts of Bronx, NY, Mrs. Mary Palmer of South Boston and Mrs. Theresa Bowman of Chesterfield; four brothers, Mr. Willie Paniel and Mr. Fred Paniel, both of Baltimore, MD, Mr. Andrew Paniel and Mr. Jerry Paniel, both of South Boston; three brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Nick Paniel.
Funeral services will be held today at 1:00 p.m. at Dan River View Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Vaughan W. Brayboy, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 2196 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston.
