Christie Fariss Hite

NELSON — Mrs. Christie Fariss Hite, 34, wife of Stephen Edward Hite died Saturday morning at Halifax Regional Hospital. Christie was born in South Boston and reared in Buffalo Junction. She was a graduate of Bluestone High Class of 1992, received her BS from James Madison University and a Masters degree from Regent University. She most recently worked for REACH employee Assistance program as a counselor. She was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church.
A service celebrating Christie’s life will be held Monday at 4 PM in the Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. G.H. Vaughan and Rev. Scott Day. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving in addition to her husband are children Ruby Louise Hite, Samuel Hughes Hite and Noel Isaac Hite; parents Joe and Brenda Fariss of Buffalo Junction; sister Heather (Gabe) Crouch of Manakin Sabot; Parents in-law Larry and Peggy Hite of Nelson; sister in-law Amy (Peter) Miano of Raleigh, NC; nieces, Alden Penelope Crouch, Laci Miano and Stephen Anthony Miano. Richard Gibson Pond

Mr. Richard Gibson Pond of 1103 Marshall Avenue, South Boston died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born May 30, 1931 in Siler City, NC, he was 77 at the time of his death. Mr. Pond was a retiree of Dominion-Virginia Power and was a former South Boston town councilman and a past president of the Altavista Rotary Club.
Mr. Pond is survived by his wife, Ann Weatherford Pond of the home, a son, Peyton Gibson Pond of Reston, two sisters, Marie Pond Jones and husband, Jesse of Siler City, NC and Barbara Pond Walker and husband, Ron of Lewisetta, three nephews, Dwight Jones and wife Pattie of Burlington, NC, Tom Proctor of Charlotte, NC and Richard Proctor of New York, NY and two nieces, Janet Jones Glass and husband Tom of Raleigh, NC and Victoria Jones Pate of Ramseur, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Armistead Pond and Inez Jones Pond.
A funeral service for Mr. Pond was conducted on Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hagy officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge cemetery. Evelyn Martin Suitt

TIMBERLAKE, NC — Evelyn Martin Suitt, 70, of 244 Woodrow Ashley Road, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Halifax County, a daughter of the late Willie Herbert Martin and Erma Compton Martin. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, and an avid bowler, being a member of the Senior League Bowlers in Roxboro and South Boston.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Thomas Suitt, Jr.; one daughter, Susan Kay Martin of South Boston; one step-daughter, Linda Suitt Harris and husband Stan of Timberlake; one step-son, Tommy Suitt and wife Linda of Roxboro; one brother, Lee Martin and wife Thersia of South Boston; five sisters, Brenda Hancock and husband James of Halifax, Janie Brooks and Grey Clayton and husband James, all of Petersburg, Betty (Bell) Martin and Judy Martin, both of Halifax; two grandchildren, Jarrod Suitt and Michael Harris; two great-grandchildren, Christina Harris and Virgina Harris; other relatives and friends, including neighbors the Harrelson family. She was preceded in death by brothers James, John and Joe Martin.
Memorial services were held Friday, October 10 at North Roxboro Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Durand and Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Rosa Lea Jennings Smith

Mrs. Rosa Lea Jennings Smith, 75, of 116 Rosehill Drive, Apt. 30, South Boston died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on June 26, 1933, a daughter of the late Oscar Williams Jennings and Mrs. Ida Sue Johnson Jennings and was married to the late Thomas Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Ferry Street.
She is survived by five nieces, Ms. Edith Cawthon, Mrs. Harriett Claiborne, Mrs. Rosa Wyatt, Mrs. Ida Jackson Brandon and Ms. Christine Jackson, all of South Boston; three nephews, Mr. Henry Jennings, Jr., Pastor Hayward Jennings, Sr. and Mr. Mark Jackson, whom she raised; 23 great-nieces and nephews, including Zina Green, Tangeneka Palmer and Michael Jackson; 21 great-great-nieces and nephews, several great-great-great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Mr. James Smith, two brothers, Mr. James Jennings and Mr. Henry “Ed” Jennings, Sr., one sister, Mrs. Mary Emma Jennings Jackson and two nephews, Mr. John Jackson and Mr. Jesse Jackson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 12 at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street with Rev. Hayward Jennings, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Garden Cemetery.
