Inez Loftis Green

Mrs. Inez Loftis Green, 96, of 621 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died Monday, September 22, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on February 20, 1912, a daughter of the late O.D. and Allie Arrington Loftis and was married to the late Ernest G. Green, Sr. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Frank Green of Lynchburg; five step-daughters, Mary E. Loftis of South Boston, Myrtle Green Chandler of Nelson, Virginia Green Baynes of Roanoke, Ruby Green Griffin of Clarksville and Lottie Green Moore of South Boston; a step-son, Joseph (Bro) Green of South Boston; sisters, Edith Loftis Burton of South Boston and Lottie Loftis Hutchins of Richmond; grandchildren, Marjorie Diane Green Pauley, Randy Nelson Green, Barbara Ann Loftis Childrey, Douglas Loftis, Jr., Tommy Chandler, Mary E. Blanks, Steve Green, Pam Summerville, Patricia Rakes, Caroline Fletcher, Dillard Moore, Sharon McKinney, Donnie G. Green, Ronnie E. Green, Karen Green Rice, Allen Scott Green. She was preceded in death by a son, O.D. Green and a step-son, Ernest G. Green, Jr.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Susan Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 815 N. Main Street, South Boston, VA 24592

Helen Throckmorton Elliott

Ms. Helen Throckmorton Elliott, 83, of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on August 31, 1925, a daughter of the late Henry Throckmorton and Lucy Wilmouth Throckmorton and was married to the late Richard Thomas Elliott. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was a retired tobacco farmer/homemaker.
She is survived by a brother, Willie Throckmorton, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, Southside Virginia Chapter, P.O. Box 310, South Hill, VA 23970.

Bryan Scott Bottoms

Mr. Bryan Scott Bottoms, 37, of 1101 Seven Oaks Drive, South Boston died Monday, September 22, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Granville County, NC on July 1, 1971, a son of Sammy Bottoms and Patricia Beal Leith. He was married to Chrissy Dawson Bottoms and was a member of Alton Baptist Church and South Boston YMCA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Dawson Bottoms and Ann Elizabeth Bottoms, both of South Boston; his mother, Patricia B. Leith and husband Stephen of South Boston; his father, Sammy Bottoms of South Boston; one brother, Stephen Todd Leith and fiancé Samantha Garner of South Boston and his maternal grandmother, Gladys Beal of Oxford, NC. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Beal and his paternal grandparents, Mark and Alice Bottoms.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Cana United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home.
