Caroline Farrar Hite

Mrs. Caroline Farrar Hite, 46, of 8047 Hunting Creek Road, Clover died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on September 26, 1961, a daughter of Mr. Robert Farrar, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Cousins Farrar. She was married to the late Mr. Kenneth Jerome Hite, Sr. and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she is survived by one daughter, Ms. Kristin Hite of Clover; one son, Mr. Kenneth J. Hite, Jr. of Clover; two sisters, Ms. Janice Farrar of Clover and Ms. Ernestine Farrar of Nathalie; four brothers, Mr. Wayne Farrar of Alton, Mr. George Farrar of Danville, Mr. Robert Farrar, Jr. and Mr. Charles Farrar, both of Clover; one brother-in-law, Mr. Stanley Hite; two sisters-in-law, Ms. Tonya Farrar and Mrs. Claudette Pannell; one aunt, one uncle, other relatives and friends, including Mrs. Kersha Beaver, Ms. Vivian Farrar and Mrs. Lorraine Bailey.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 31 at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James Coleman, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer society or Clays Mill Elementary School PTO, care of Jeffress Funeral Home.

Connie Oliver Goodwyn

Mrs. Connie Oliver Goodwyn, 89, of 5224 Philpott Road, South Boston died Monday, August 25, 2008 in Sumpter, SC. She was born in Halifax County on April 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Mr. Cleveland Oliver and Mrs. Anna Owens Oliver. She was married to the late Mr. Richard Goodwyn and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jean S. Brown of Sumpter, S.C.; one son, Mr. Robert Scott of South Boston; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one son-in-law, Mr. Bernard Brown; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mattie Scott; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lillian M. Oliver; devoted friend, Mr. James Barksdale, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Alvin Scott, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 30 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Harvey Bigelow officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.


Herman Gunn Conner

Mr. Herman Gunn Conner, 79, of 1120 Old Grubby Road, South Boston died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at The Woodview. He was born in Halifax County on October 8, 1928, a son of the late Mr. Henry Herman Conner and Ola Perkins Conner. He was married to Lillian Watts Conner and was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church and a former employee of Craddock Terry.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Conner and wife Angela of Georgetown, S.C. and Larry Conner and wife Patricia of South Boston; three daughters, Linda Garber and husband Philip of Keene, Helen Martin and husband Cecil of South Boston, Ruby Ellinger and husband Rick of Staunton; two sisters, Marie Hayes of South Boston and Lucille Franklin of Richmond; one brother, Bill Conner of Crewe; six grandchildren, Bobby Ray Martin and wife Tanisha, Kelly M. Brizendine and husband Donnie, Jeffrey Michael Conner and wife Jennifer, Christopher Matthew Conner and wife Julissa, Stacy Conner Brown and husband Ashley, Heather Conner Terry and husband Adam and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, August 30 at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.

James Corliss Brady Sr.

James Corliss Brady, Sr. 79, husband of Nancy Snead Brady, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at his home. Native of Florida, James was the son of Henry DeWitt and Dora May Stewart; and moved to Virginia at age 16. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas with over 30 years of service. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Jane Lyon officiating. Interment followed in the Clover Baptist Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Brady is survived by his daughters, Emily (Dennis) Johnson of Houston, TX, Mary Geehan of Kansas City, Mo.; son, James C. Brady, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; and sister, Hollis Wiggins of Jacksonville, Fl.. He is also survived by grandchildren, Chad (Liesl) Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Cathy Geehan, Jennifer Geehan and Matthew Geehan. Fannie Pulliam Davis

Mrs. Fannie Pulliam Davis of Roanoke died Friday, August 29, 2008 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Halifax County on October 1, 1914, she was 93 at the time of her death. She was a retired sales associate of the Leggett Department Store and was a member of Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke.
Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Vivian Davis Nelson and husband, Jim of Roanoke and Ellen Davis Sizemore and husband Wright of Mooresville, N.C., a granddaughter, Laura Nelson Woods and husband Patrick of Roanoke and a grandson, Jeffrey Allen Nelson and fiance, April Feeser of Alpharetta, GA, three great granddaughters, Mollie McKenzie Woods, Emily Anne Woods and Ashley Paige Woods, all of Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Otha Davis and her father and mother, Benjamin Franklin Pulliam and Mollie Smith Pulliam, sisters, Addie Oliver and Mary Perkins and brothers, George, Andy, James, John and Leroy Pulliam.
A funeral service for Mrs. Davis was held on Sunday, August 31 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bill McEntire officiating.
