Burnette Edward Bray Jr.

Mr. Burnette Edward Bray, Jr., 87, of 3021 Liberty Road, Nathalie died Monday, August 25, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on June 8, 1921, a son of the late Burnette E. Bray, Sr. and Leanna McCraw Bray and was married to the late Lusetta Jennings Bray. He was a retired farmer and Deputy Sheriff of Halifax County and was a member of Liberty United Church of Christ and French Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by two sisters, Lula Cockerill of South Boston and Paulette Chandler of Hampton and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Lee Bray.
Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Church of Christ with Rev. Dwight Moore officiating.

Nancy Bailey Traynham

Mrs. Nancy Bailey Traynham, 88, of 1080 Bethel Hill Road, Alton died Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on March 14, 1920, daughter of the late Mr. Samuel Bailey and Mrs. Rosa Mason Bailey. She was married to the late Mr. Haywood (Tom) Traynham and was a member of Denniston Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. June M. Traynham Foster of Alton; one granddaughter, Shirbane Traynham; two great-grandchildren, Shirlyssa Brandon and Marquary Traynham; one son-in-law, Mr. Archie Foster; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29 at 3:00 p.m. at Denniston Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Spencer Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.

Janie Terry Goode

Janie Terry Goode, 95, of 1164 Mercy Seat Road, Sutherlin died Friday, August 22, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born March 23, 1913 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Claud and Lucy Ann Woodson Terry. She was married to the late Lavan Goode and the last of her generation.
She is survived by four daughters, Mary Rae G. Corsey of Mitchellville, MD, Jannie Ann Goode, Pheaba Goode and Florine Clark Goode, all of Sutherlin; three sons, Henry Goode and Woodrow Goode, both of Sutherlin and Bobbie Goodie of Colonial Heights; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m. at New Arbor Baptist Church with Rev. Nelson Stamps officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.

Jesse Pan Dunn Jr.

Jesse Pat Dunn, Jr. (Peter), died August 21, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born August 23, 1936 in Halifax County, son of the late Jesse P. Dunn, Sr. and Harriett G. McLaughlin Dunn.
Peter leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Charlie Thomas (Michelle), Bryan Keith and Jessie Marvin, all of Washington, DC; one granddaughter and one grandson; a devoted niece, Valeria Dixon and her husband Marvin; four brothers, Johnny (Louise), Earl (Marion), Elder William (Rosita), Henry L. (Joyce); two sisters, Mary D. Morton (Stewart) and Kessye D. Cargile, and a devoted sister-in-law, Nora Barksdale.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30 at County Line Baptist Church, Vernon Hill, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Otis Dillard officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunn Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 1220 Dunn Trail, Vernon Hill.

James Samuel White

Mr. James Samuel White, 96, of Brooklyn, NY, formerly of Halifax County, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Calvary Hospital, New York. He was born in Halifax County on September 7, 1911, son of the late Mr. William White and Mrs. Nancy White and was married to the late Mrs. Hilda Mae Peters White.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Copealia McNeal of Brooklyn, NY; one sister-in-law, Ms. Dorothy White of Richmond; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Otis R. Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in the White Family Cemetery.
