Robert T. Lassiter
Mr. Robert T. Lassiter, 84, formerly of Virgilina, died Saturday, August 16, 2008 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born in Virgilina on August 3, 1924, son of the late Mr. William "Bill" Lassiter and Mrs. Haughty Beard Lassiter. He was married to the late Mrs. Mary M. Lassiter and was a deacon at Wayland Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" L. Claughton of South Boston, Mrs. Bertha L. Rucker of Baltimore, Md, Mrs. Mae L. Witherspoon and Mrs. Lucy Mosley, both of Philadelphia; three sons, Mr. Garry Lassiter of San Diego, Calif., Mr. Joe Mosley and Mr. Carlton Mosley, both of Philadelphia; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mildred H. Lassiter; three sons-in-law, Mr. Dennis Witherspoon, Mr. Johnnie Mosley and Mr. Moses Claughton; 27 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ruth A. Crawley of Blackstone, two step-sisters, Mrs. Mable Richardson and Mrs. Hazel Gillis; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Robert E. Lassiter, five sisters Mrs. Janie L. Luster, Mrs. Marguerite M. Watkins, Mrs. Cora L. Yancey, Mrs. Mary F. Gentry, Ms. Willie L. Lassiter and three brothers, Mr. Frank Lassiter, Mr. John Lassiter, Mr. "Man" Lassiter and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Wayland Temple Baptist Church, Philadelphia.
Joseph Paul Radcliffe
Mr. Joseph Paul Radcliffe of 1108 Hendricks Lane, Alton died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Newport News on February 25, 1959, he was 49 at the time of his death. He was a construction worker.
Mr. Radcliffe is survived by a daughter, Brittany Radcliffe of Asheville, NC, two sons, Nicholas Paul Radcliffe and Lee Matthew Radcliffe, both of North Kingston, RI, a sister, Robin R. Barton of Alton and four brothers, Robert L. Radcliffe of Semora, NC, Mark A. Radcliffe and Larry A. Radcliffe, both of Alton and Michael R. Radcliffe of California. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Lee Smith Radcliffe and his father, Leon Arthur Radcliffe.
A memorial service for Mr. Radcliffe will be conducted on Sunday, August 24 at Ephesus Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. L.L. Watlington officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23 at the home of Robert L. Willie G. Young
Mr. Willie G. Young of 1147 Sinai Road, South Boston died Monday, August 18, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 69. Born in Melvin, Ala. on April 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Mr. Ned Howard and the late Mrs. Inolia Young Howard. He was married to Mrs. Linda David Young and was a member of County Line Baptist Church.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, three sons, Mr. Tyrone Young, Mr. Avery Young and Mr. Willie Young, all of Albany, N.Y., three daughters, Ms. Patricia Young of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Regina Young Dorsey and Ms. Kimberly Young, both of Albany, 13 grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ola Kirksey of Silas, Alabama, Mrs. Polly Watson and Mrs. Nettie Hubbard, both of Schenectady, N.Y., four brothers, Mr. Freddie Young of Washington, DC, Mr. Franklin Young of McGhee, Miss, Mr. Henry Howard of Cohoes, N.Y. and Mr. Harry Howard of Schenectady, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lisa Young; two brothers-in-law, Mr. William Petty (Patricia) and Mr. Tommy Davis, six sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jeanette Young, Mrs. Georgia Young, Mrs. Ruth Howard, Mrs. Annette Young, Mrs. Sheree Howard and Mrs. Annette Gailliard (George) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Young will be conducted on Saturday, August 23 at 11 a.m. at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Otis R. Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends at the home, 1147 Sinai Road, South Boston.
Betty Martin Hailey
Mrs. Betty Martin Hailey of 2019 Grubby Road, Halifax died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital She was born in Halifax County on May 20, 1947 and was 61 at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late John Johnson Martin and Lilly Lloyd Martin and was married to Roger Lee Hailey. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone and was a former employee of Tultex.
Mrs. Hailey is survived by her husband of the home and one son, James D. Anderson, Jr. and wife Angela of South Boston and four sisters, Doris Conner and Virginia Holt of Nathalie, Myrtle Williams and Jean Anderson, both of South Boston, one brother, Charlie Martin of Rustburg and one grandchild, Katlyn Joy Anderson of South Boston. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A graveside service for Mrs. Hailey will be held Friday, August 22 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Millstone Cemetery with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Doris Conner, 2004 T.N. Snow Road, Nathalie.
