Lessie McKee Adams

Mrs. Lessie McKee Adams, 84, of 222 Easley Street, South Boston died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in South Boston on September 12, 1923, daughter of the late Harvey Oscar McKee and Ellen McKee and was married to Claude Merritt Adams, Sr. She was a charter member of Second Baptist Church, where she was the teacher of the adult ladies Sunday school class, member of the choir and WMU. She was a retired seamstress of Daystrom Furniture Company.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Claude Adams, Jr. and wife Karen of Norfolk; daughters, Shirlyn Adams Parker of Spotsylvania and Althea Adams Whitlow of South Boston; grandchildren Tony Whitlow and wife Sherri, Tamra Whitt and husband Kevin, Claude Adams, III, Michael Adams and his wife, Gina A. Chappell, Wayne Parker, Teresa P. Hafer, Donna Kay Wallace and husband Michael; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lizzie McKee and son-in-law Wilford Whitlow.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Jim and Joyce Smith and Rev. Larry Wollbrink officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens. Shaun Lynell Simon

Mr. Shaun Lynell "Price" Simon, 27, of South Boston died Friday, August 8, 2008 in Richmond. He was born in Halifax County on February 23, 1981, a son of Mr. Kirkland M. Simon and Mrs. Linda Ferrell Simon and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his devoted companion, Ms. Sheandra Alderson of South Boston; one son, Mr. Shykyle Simon of South Boston; one daughter, Ms. Shakayla Simon of South Boston; one brother, Mr. Kirkland Simon, Jr. of Danville; grandmothers, Mrs. Annie Simon of Clover and Mrs. Mattie Ferrell of Halifax; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ashley Simon; 13 aunts, eight uncles, one niece, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mr. Winfred Simon, Sr. and Mr. Roger Ferrell, Sr.
A funeral service will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Archer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Elnora Louise Sydnor Jordan

Mrs. Elnora Louise Sydnor Jordan, 78, of 1221 East Hitesburg Road, Virgilina died August 8, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on April 23, 1930, a daughter of the late Mr. George Sydnor and Mrs. Mamie Roberts Sydnor and was married to the late Mr. John Jordan, Jr. She was a member of White Oak Fork Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Janett Alexander of Chase City, Mrs. Peggie Brooks of Scottsburg, Mrs. Delarosa Nelson of Raleigh, NC; two sons, Mr. Bruce Jordan and Mr. George Jordan, both of Bridgeport, CT; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Sallie Williams of Bridgeport, CT, Mrs. Evaughan Wilkins, Mrs. Truett Richardson and Mrs. Dorothy Fountain, all of Virgilina; three sons-in-law, Mr. Calvin Alexander, Mr. Robert Brooks, Mr. Brandon Nelson; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Ann Sydnor, Mrs. Thelma Sydnor, Mrs. Christina Sydnor; one brother-in-law, Mr. Robert Fountain; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Mr. George G. Sydnor, Mr. William G. Sydnor, Mr. James J. Sydnor, Mr. Charlie E. Sydnor and Mr. Arthur A. Sydnor.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 16 at 12:00 noon at White Oak Fork Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel.

Anner Davenport Carter

Mrs. Anner Davenport Carter, 85, of 2064 MacDonald Road, Scottsburg died August 8, 2008 at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on September 28, 1922, a daughter of the late Mr. Jacob Davenport and Mrs. Florence Buckner Davenport. She was married to the late Mr. George Washington Carver, Sr. and was a member of St. James Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Mr. George Washington Carver, Jr. of Clover and Mr. Thomas Harrison Carver of Philadelphia, PA; three brothers, Mr. John Davenport of Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Royal Davenport and Mr. Ed Davenport, both of Scottsburg; five sisters, Mrs. Rosetta Johnson of Manassas, Mrs. Mary Dixon, Mrs. Dorothy Tyler, Mrs. Edith Stugis and Ms. Alice Davenport, all of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Yvonne Carter and Mrs. Christine Carter; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Davenport, Mrs. Gerlene Davenport and Mrs. Maggie Davenport; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Walter Carter, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret L. Jackson and Mrs. Ida J. Roberts and one brother, Mr. David Davenport.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church with Rev. William M. McCoy, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
