Pauline C. Thaxton

Mrs. Pauline C. Thaxton, 84, of Winter Garden, Fla. died July 2, 2008 at the Hospice of the Comforter House, Altamonte Springs, Fla. She was the daughter of the late Basil and Kate Conner of Scottsburg, was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Orlando, Fla., a member of Gideons and DHV. She was married to the late Gordon L. Thaxton, Sr.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Thaxton McQuiggin of Winter Garden, Fla.; a son, Leon Thaxton, Jr. of Apopka, Fla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Joy C. Carlton of Richmond and Nancy C. Tuck and husband Emmitt of South Boston.
Funeral services were held July 8 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, FL with Rev. Steve Wane officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando, Fla.

Frances Mae Sanford

Ms. Frances Mae Sanford Hubbard of 1032 Tabernacle Trail, Halifax died July 23, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 78. Born in Halifax County on May 5, 1930 to the late Mr. Kenneth Sanford and Mrs. Katie B. Sims Sanford, she was a member of Peaceful Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Ms. Hubbard is survived by a brother, Mr. Kenneth W. Sanford of Alexandria, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Sanford, her adopted daughter and son, Mrs. Sarah Bailey and Mr. Henry Marshall Bailey, both of South Boston and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Thelma Marie Gainer.
A memorial service for Mrs. Hubbard will be held Friday, August 1 at 2 p.m. at Peaceful Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Iola Cornitcher Dawkins

Mrs. Iola Cornitcher Dawkins of Memorial Drive, South Boston, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y. died July 27, 2008 at the age of 76. Born in Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Nathaniel Cornitcher, Sr. and Mrs. Iola Chappell Cornitcher and was married to the late Mr. Alfred Dawkins, Sr.
Mrs. Dawkins is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Teresa Dixon of Brooklyn, three sons, Mr. Alfred Dawkins, Jr. and Mr. Eric Dawkins, both of Brooklyn, and Mr. Kirk Dawkins of Long Island, N.Y., 19 grandchildren including the devoted Ms. Keisha Dawkins of Brooklyn, numerous great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Quintella Burney of Philadelphia, Pa., a brother, Mr. Nathaniel Cornitcher of Philadelphia, and a host of other relatives and friends including the Betts Family of South Boston. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dawkins was preceded in death by two children, Kevin and Cheryl Dawkins.
A funeral service for Mrs. Dawkins will be held at a later date in Brooklyn, NY. Public viewing for family and friends was held on Wednesday, July 30 from noon until 6 p.m. at the chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home.

John David Throckmorton

Mr. John David Throckmorton, 38, of 1315 Peach Avenue, South Boston died Saturday, July 26, 2008 in Pennsylvania. He was born in Halifax County on August 31, 1969, a son of John Lewis Throckmorton and Nancy Dunston Throckmorton. He was a member of Scottsburg Baptist Church, a truck driver for Schneider National Trucking Company and an avid fisherman and guitar enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sons, John David Throckmorton and Justin Lewis Throckmorton, both of Long Island; his fiancˇ, Betty Dunkley of Long Island; one sister, Debbie Tulin and husband Pete of Flanders, N.J.; one niece, Katie Tulin and one nephew, David Tulin.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery, Scottsburg with Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
